Art in the Park

Albany’s Art in the Park-
Art, music and culture in beautiful Kell Park.

Visitors to Art in the Park at Albany Village this summer will be treated to a very special exhibition. For the first time artists from Paremoremo, Mount Eden and Spring Hill correctional facilities will be exhibiting a range of their work. Some of the carvings, canvases and drawings will be for sale to the public, along with work by the many local artists who will exhibit. Many of them will paint on site, enabling the public to see art in progress.

Albany Community Coordinator Robynne Pringle says funding from Creative New Zealand has allowed her and local artist Adrien Jennings, to expand the annual event on February 14th and this time the public can try their hand at painting workshops taken by Adrien and sculpting workshops taken by stone carver Margot Symes.

“They will be able to take home their very own work of art,” she says.” Kell Park is a beautiful place to appreciate art and I hope people will bring their lunch, sit under the fruit trees and really make a day of it. I am delighted to have on display some of the wonderful art coming out of our correctional facilities and I hope local art lovers are as interested as I am.”

Live jazz bands ‘Maria O’ Flaherty and the Ben Fernandez Quartet’ and ‘Good Oil’ will entertain the picnicking public and children can enjoy a bouncy castle and play equipment.

Art in the Park is free to the public from 10am to 3pm; with just a $15.00 fee for the Have a Go workshops. Artists keen to exhibit and sell their work can register for $20.00 by contacting Robynne Pringle at albanycoco@xtra.co.nz or by phoning 4485363.
