Theme Week Challenge - Colour (22/2/09)

Every fortnight members are given a theme. They have the next 2 weeks to create an artwork that represents that theme. These will often incorporate a certain technique, style, colour etc as an additional challenge for members, this weeks added challenge to artists was to use their non-dominant hand. These challenges are completely voluntary. Submissions must be original and be completed during the 2 week time-frame. Members may choose to interpret the theme in any way they wish.

Masters Month Challenge - Max Ernst (19/2/09)

Every month members are given an artist to study. They have the next 4 weeks to paint/create something inspired by the work of that artist. These challenges are completely voluntary. Submissions must be original, be of any size, medium or style, must adhere to copyright laws and be completed during the 4 week time-frame.

Photography Challenge - Summer (16/2/09)

Ara Fine Art Awards 2008

The NZ Art Guild is proud to co-sponsor the Ara Fine Art Student Awards for the second year. On February the 13th the top 28 art students from Auckland secondary schools will be awarded $1,000 from the Ara Lodge 348 Irish Constitution and an annual subscription to the NZ Art Guild.

The students portfolios will be on display and these are a testaments to their artistic talents and diversity. All the award winners are continuing their art education in various creative industries this year.

Tea for 2 Exhibition

Maximum numbers for works able to be entered is two
in each Category.
Cost: $15 per artwork or $7.50 per Teacosy

Tea and the consumption of tea is the subject for artwork.
Artwork(s) in Painting, Pastel, Photography, Ceramics,
Sculpture and Mixed Media will be accepted. This
includes Teacosys entered into the Teacosy Knitting
Challenge.

Artwork is not selected i.e. all work is exhibited, All
artworks are to be labelled stating the artists name,
medium, title and price of the work. Please provide a
swing tag with a long enough string to hang in front of
the artwork.

All artwork to be hung must be delivered, dry, strung
(using D-rings) and ready for installation.

All work is for sale with 30% commission deducted from
the retail price if the work is sold.

While all care is taken the Mairangi Arts Centre is not
liable for any damage to artwork. Insurance of the
artwork is the artists’ responsibility.

Work must be delivered to the Centre between 14 - 18
February. No work will be accepted after this deadline.
If work is couriered it must be accompanied by a
return ticket.

This exhibtiion opens on Saturday 21 February at 2pm.
This exhibiton will close on Saturday 14 March at 4pm.
Unsold work MUST be collected on 14 March between
4-5pm.

Blockhouse Bay Art in the Bay
Art Festival 15th & 16th March 2009.

Calling for expression of interest from local artists, school students, known and emerging artists to exhibit their works of art over a weekend of activities in all available Blockhouse venues.

Included in this exhibition can be anything associated with art - curbside painting, classes, performance art, talks, exhibitions and art sales. You will be encouraged to exhibit your works, and to sell, free of any commission charges, if you wish.

The dates we are currently considering are Saturday & Sunday, the 15th and 16th March 2009, and with not too much time to organise such a major event the co-ordinators ask that you e-mail immediately should you be interested in participating. Further details will then be forwarded to you.

Times: 10am - 4pm on both days.

Artists shave it all off for charity

The New Zealand Art Guild raised over $20,000 for the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation of NZ (LBF) at Tuesday nights "Shave an Artist" Charity Art Auction and "Life" Exhibition.

This event saw 18 people walk away bald with top NZ artist Sofia Minson being first to shave her locks. Artists Jennifer Christiansen, Marimba Powley, Helen Sherrock, Sharlene Shcmidt, Juliet Cryns, Victoria Anderson closely followed along with friends and members of the public. Not only were fantastic artworks up for sale but so was the opportunity to shave MP Rodney Hide's head. North Shore City Mayor Andrew Williams, who officially opened the event, won this opportunity with a bid of $200.

The concept behind this awareness campaign was sparked by Sofia Minson who was always impressed by LBF’s “Shave for a Cure” campaign. Sofia didn't want to do this alone so approached the NZ Art Guild to see whether we could get a group of artists together to do it. From there the idea grew into an event which included 35 artists from all around NZ.

The money raised will help support the 6 New Zealand children and adults who are diagnosed with blood cancers like leukaemia and lymphoma every day. LBF receives no government funding yet provides essential support not only for those patients, but for their families - support that can last months, and even years.

The Exhibition is a celebration and appreciation of all facets of life. This theme was open to interpretation and some of the artworks are very personal as they have been inspired by artists own lives that have been touched in some way by Leukaemia or Blood disorders. The exhibition runs until Friday 27th Feb at the Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna Beach, Auckland. 100% of the auctioned artworks price and 20% of the sale price of the exhibition artworks goes to LBF.
